In 2016, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities commissioned Wayside principal Curry Hackett’s design team to envision a promenade honoring fifteen Black cultural figures that bolstered their careers at the historic Howard Theatre. The Walk begins near the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Headquarters in Shaw, DC and proceeds two blocks to the facade of the Howard Theatre.

Team members included Jay Coleman (Artist; sculpture), Joanna Blake (Artist; sculpture), and Harry G Robinson, III, FAIA (Consultant; urban design).
